Myths and Stories in Art

I'm taking more of an interest in narrative in art so I went onto the Getty's website and just browsed all of their paintings in their permanent collection that fall under the category of "myths and stories." These are some of my favorites.

Paul Gauguin - Arii Matamoe - 1892

Pierre-Paul Prud'hon - Justice and Divine Vengeance Pursuing Crime - 1805-06

Alessandro Magnasco - The Triumph of Venus - 1720-30

Francesco Solimena - Death of Messalina - c. 1708

Nikolaus Knupfer - Solon before Croesus - 1650-52

Landscape with Mercury and Argus - Unknown Flemish Artist - 1570s

They're prrrrretty dramatic. I like the old Flemish one the best.
